Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices saw a 7.3% reduction, while commercial LPG rates increased by ₹111 per cylinder. These revisions align with global fuel benchmarks. The ATF price cut aims to ease pressure on airlines, which rely heavily on fuel costs, while domestic LPG prices remain unchanged.
In December, fuel demand experienced an unprecedented upswing, eclipsing annual averages. Diesel saw a remarkable boost, complemented by notable increases in petrol and LPG use, highlighting a vibrant economic pulse.
The announcement comes a day after Indraprastha Gas Ltd, India’s largest city gas retailer, cut prices of natural gas piped into household kitchens for cooking in Delhi and NCR towns by Rs 0.70 per standard cubic meters.
Power consumption surged by nearly 7% in December, reaching 138.39 billion units, driven by increased use of heating appliances due to severe cold in North India. Peak power demand also rose to 241.20 GW, with further steady demand expected as temperatures continue to drop.
Hotels and restaurants across India face higher operating costs. Commercial cooking gas prices saw a Rs 111 rise on January 1, 2026. A 19-kg cylinder in Delhi now costs Rs 1,691.50.
