Hotels and restaurants are facing a severe blow due to a significant hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices. Industry associations are urging the government to intervene and roll back the price increase. This escalation in operating costs threatens further closures and job losses in the hospitality sector, a key employment generator.
India has rolled back a decade-old clean-air mandate, relaxing sulphur emission rules for most coal-fired power plants. The government order exempts 79% of plants outside populated areas from installing flue-gas desulphurisation systems. Only 10% of plants near major cities must install the equipment by 2027, raising concerns about competitiveness and cost recovery.
India has proposed amendments to its motor vehicle rules to formally integrate higher ethanol-blended fuels, including E85 (85% ethanol) and E100 (nearly pure ethanol). This move follows the nation’s achievement of its E20 target and aims to further reduce reliance on expensive petroleum imports.
